On Sundays
We normally meet at 10:30 am and at 6:00 pm at the Abbey Chapel, Checker Walk. Following announcements, the morning service would often start with a hymn, prayer and a short talk for the children. After the second hymn the children would go to their various activities; crèche (0 - 3 yrs) in the lounge, Venturers Sunday School for children aged 4 - 11 yrs in the Upper Hall, and Bible Class for those aged 11+, in the Manse. The service would continue in the Main Hall with Bible readings, prayer, a sermon and singing. The meeting would normally finish around 11:45 am followed by fellowship and refreshments served in the chapel lounge.
The evening service also has a children's talk and is somewhat shorter (finishing around 7:00 pm) and also has refreshments served in the lounge after the meeting.
On the second Sunday of each month a Family Service is held at 10:30 am in Caldecott Primary School, Caldecott Road, South Abingdon. A crèche is available and refreshments are served after the meeting, which would last about an hour.
All of these meetings are open to everyone, and suitable for all ages. All of them are designed to bring relevant Bible teaching and an opportunity to worship God together. If you are a visitor, you are welcome to join with us and to have your children attend any of the activities or to have them stay with you in the service.
During the morning service on the 1st Sunday of the month and during the evening service of the 3rd Sunday of the month we celebrate the Lord's Supper. If you are visiting us for either of these meetings, please see our beliefs and practice for the taking of the Lord's Supper.
Our sister church, Hanney Chapel, in East Hanney also has morning services each Sunday starting at 10:30 am, with the 2nd Sunday being a Family Service. Once a month an evening service is held (normaly on the 4th Sunday) at 6:00 pm (finishing about 7:00 pm).
During The Week
For Children
Mums & Toddlers :- Mondays 10 am until noon.
Those with young children and babies can come along to the Abbey Chapel for the morning, during which they can chat and have a coffee while the children play together with a wide variety of toys. Craft activities for the children are often arranged. Once a month there is a short Christian talk for the adults.
Kickstart :- Thursdays 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Club for children 6 - 11 years old, held at the Preston Road Community Centre. Meetings include games, stories, activities, Bible talks and refreshments. A similar club, 'Jumpstart', is held at Hanney Chapel, East Hanney (also 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm)..
For Young People
11UP :- Fridays 7:15 pm to 9:00 pm.
A club for 11 to 14 year olds, generally meeting in the Abbey Chapel. 11UP has a varied programme of games and other activities, as well as refreshments and a short Bible talk. Activities have included a car treasure hunt and swimming. A similar 'Friday Club', is held at Hanney Chapel, East Hanney.
Cross-Section :- Saturday evenings (fortnightly).
A group for Young People aged 14 and over. The group usually meets at the Abbey Chapel, or in church members' homes.
For Adults
Midweek Meeting :- Wednesdays 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Bible Study and Prayer meetings, held at Abbey Chapel on the 1st and 3rd Wed of the month.
- Pastoral Care Groups, meeting in member's homes on the 2nd and 4th Wed of the month.
- Missionary meeting, held at Abbey Chapel on the 5th Wed of the month.
Ladies' Coffee Morning :- 2nd and 4th Thursdays 10:30 am.
This group meets at the Abbey Chapel for coffee followed by a short meeting. This includes a bible reading, prayer, a short talk and singing.
Ladies' Prayer Circle :- 1st Tuesday in the month at 9:30 am.
This group for ladies meets once a month in a home in Abingdon for coffee, followed by a Bible reading, fellowship and prayer.
Mothers & Others :- 1st Thursday in the month, 10:30 am at Hanney Chapel.
This group is open to all and meets for a time of informal fellowship and a brief talk, followed by lunch together.
Thursday Focus :- 2nd Thursday in the month, 9:30 - 10 am start.
This group for ladies meets in various homes around Abingdon. While young children play together, there is a short Biblical "thought for the day" followed by a time of prayer. There is always coffee and chat, and also lunch a couple of times during the term.
Outreach
Open Air Meeting :- On the 2nd Saturday in the month, 11:00 am start.
Held in Abingdon shopping-precinct.
